i heart TriBeCa

It's the day before I head back to London and my total babe of a boyfriend treats me to breakfast in New York! Well, almost. Who would have thought that in the heart of Glasgow's West End, you'd find a tasty slice of the Big Apple? TriBeCa is pretty easy to spot (the Yellow New York Taxi in-front of it kind of is a giveaway), so why I'd not been here before I do not know. Everything from the decor, to the menu, to the atmosphere is your all American dream. I had the super berry smoothie and pancakes..YUM!

find me at the marketplace

In a previous post I mentioned the beautiful vintage clothing boutique Champagne Downtown. Their ASOS store has NOW LAUNCHED! Click here to see! I'm super excited about this, and not only because a sneaky little picca of myself in some of their vintage finest appears on the site's 'about page' - truly honoured <3. I already spy some winter must-haves, such as the gorgeous knit-wear found here...but which to choose?

out with the new..

I'm more than into London Fashion Week showing all the newest emerging trends for next season,  but there's something special about vintage clothing, something that won't ever go stale. And everywhere I'm looking these days, a vintage fair pops up, fashion forward and edgy enough to rival any catwalk show. Yes, there will still be the obligatory tea and cake stands and the cute-as-your-granny floral prints at such events, but something darker and much more interesting seems to be emerging too.

Maybe it's the winter months looming or maybe it's the way we're thinking these days, but fashion has toughened up and we won't just buy and bin any more - we invest. Just look at how trends are coming and going quicker than ever before, and then look at the likes of Champagne Downtown (who are launching their much anticipated ASOS store As. We. Speak). High fashion pieces, but to keep and treasure for always. This is vintage styled within an inch of it's life.

bleach babe

I admit it. I haven't been kind to my hair. In fact if there was a society for protection against hair cruelty, they'd have me locked up and throw away the key. To summarise my hair-history, it has been: blonde-black-blonde-red-blonde-white(!)-brown-red-brown. Nowadays I'm almost back to my naturally 'mousey' shade, once again dreaming of highlights and golden waves. There is an emerging pattern. (See below for pictorial evidence).

when bleach and I were lovers...
..and when we broke up

After months of defying my hairdressers wishes to chop the lot off, as it resembled straw more than hair, I finally gave in and had myself a long-bob. It's (very slowly) growing back, and so to give my poor hair a break, I thought I'd steer clear of the dye for a bit and give an all new product on the block a try. John Frieda's Sheer Blonde Go Blonder Controlled Lightening Spray promises to "gradually lighten and brighten for a natural-looking, blonder blonde." I'm sold.

Rating: a not-so-bright 2/5.

You spray it on after washing, before drying and styling as it works with the heat to lighten. Following the instructions, after 3 uses my hair did seem lighter, but however carefully applied it seemed rather patchy. A few more uses in and it turned a nasty brassy shade leaving me no other option but to go to the hairdressers. I'm not sure if my hair was a little too dark to use this spray on as it DOES state only shades of already blonde hair should use, but none the less I'd advise to use any home lightening products with care as, much as I wish for otherwise, the usual end result will be more brassy than sassy. And so the cycle of hair abuse continues...

fash blog 101

Today is the first day of Social Media Week, a global platform that connects people, content, and conversation around emerging trends in social and mobile media.
I have been invited along to Fashion Blogging 101, a talk combining the knowledge of great Glasgow-based fashion bloggers, all in the one room . With the likes of Jonathon from Les Garcons, Michelle from Kingdom of Style, Sarah from We Shop Therefore We Are and designer Hilary Laing taking part in a panel discussion on all things fashion blogging.
Taking place in the uber-stylish Citizen M hotel, I am more than a little excited!

teenage dreams

I enjoy tumblr. And I also enjoy snooping round other people's stuff because I am nosey, so when I came across Teenage Bedroom you can imagine my delight.
There is something magical about a persons bedroom, hidden among the beauty products strewn across the dresser, tucked between volumes on a cluttered bookshelf, hidden in the wall collage of posters, CD inserts, and pages from magazines. A teenager’s bedroom is so much more than where she sleeps—it can represent her entire personality. This Tumblr is a celebration of these spaces, featuring photos submitted by girls and boys all around the world.
I've moved a fair bit in my life and I kind of wish I had documented each room that came with each move. But I wasn't that forward thinking, so here's a snap of my last room occupied.

holibags '11!

It is often said that before one can move on, one must find closure. So before I put away all my summer dresses, kaftans, bikinis, short shorts and floaty tops (genuine sadness here) I'm going to relive some holiday memories.
I was lucky enough to be sent to Ibiza with Grazia Magazine as I wrote my Holiday Style Diary for them. Here's the article and just A FEW random snaps:

San Antonio does the best sunsets <3

I also had some down-time with my famz in Portugal and jetted off to Mallorca to visit my beautiful friend Diana who has a wonderful home there and showed me how the Spanish do life- and it's amazing!

I have to include the BEST EVERRRR carrot cake ever ever at Cappucino in Palma. so yumz.

beginnings

It's September which is strictly a month of new beginnings (or endings if, like me, you're super-optimistic and will eternally grieve the end of summertime fun and frolicking, and the ability to leave the house without a jacket- I just like to have the choice ok.)

Actually I'm lying, because I much prefer winter dressing. I'm relishing the thought of wrapping up in cable-knit jumpers, riding boots and the cosy ear-muff-furry-snood-and-fingerless-glove combo, sipping on an obligatory gingerbread latte. <3

Beginnings. It is the beginning of this blog, for one. It's mainly for fun and also to organise all my internet findings for future references and of course to share with anyone lucky enough to stumble across here.

It's also the start of my final year of uni studying Fashion Journalism - a huge biggie. I'm moving into an amazingly pretty new flat in West London with my 3 best girlbabes. I don't know what it is about September that is so inspiring for change and making plans, more so than a new calendar could ever be, so I'm excited to see what the autumn will bring!
